Common Oven & Range Repair Warning Signs

If any of these sound familiar, it's time to have a technician take a look.

Uneven Baking or Temperature Off

Food burning on top while raw inside indicates a failed bake or broil element, bad temperature sensor, or relay board fault.

Gas Burner Clicking or Not Igniting

A burner that clicks continuously or won't light points to a dirty spark igniter, weak spark module, or clogged burner port.

Error Codes on Control Panel

Codes such as EC01, E010, F10, F30, F3 E1, or C-20 signal sensor, door latch, or control board failures.

Oven Door Locked / Won't Open

A door stuck after a self-clean cycle means a jammed motorized door lock latch or tripped high-limit thermal switch.

Electric Element Not Heating

A radiant element or solid burner coil that stays cold points to a burnt element, infinite switch failure, or broken wire.

Induction Cooktop Error / Pan Not Sensing

Flashing pan indicators or error codes on induction units indicate an inverter board, fan, or zone coil sensor fault.

How We Diagnose Oven & Range Problems

We test bake/broil heating element resistance, temperature probe thermistor curve values, gas igniter amperage draw, and electronic control relays before replacing parts.

High-performance commercial-style ranges (Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Capital, BlueStar) feature heavy-duty gas valves, dual-stacked burners, and dual-convection blowers. Our technicians carry specialized diagnostic tools for high-output gas and dual-fuel systems.

Got Questions?

Oven & Range Repair FAQs

Why is my oven baking unevenly or burning food on top?

Uneven baking usually means either the lower bake element or upper broil element has failed, or that the temperature sensor is giving inaccurate readings to the control board. We test both elements and the sensor to pinpoint the exact failure.

Why is my gas range surface burner clicking continuously?

Continuous clicking happens when the spark igniter detects moisture, food grease, or a misaligned burner cap, or when the spark module switch is shorted. Cleaning the igniter tip or replacing the spark switch stops the clicking.

How do I unlock an oven door stuck after self-clean?

Self-cleaning heats the oven above 800°F and locks the door with a motorized latch. If the high-limit thermal fuse trips or the lock motor jams, the door stays locked. We test the thermal fuse and lock motor to safely release the latch.

What causes an electric bake element to spark, glow bright orange, or break in half?

An electric heating element sparks or breaks when the outer sheath degrades over time and short-circuits to the cabinet chassis. We replace burnt elements and test board relays.

Why is my gas oven taking a long time to ignite or preheat?

Slow gas ignition is caused by a weak silicon carbide igniter coil. As igniters age, they draw insufficient amperage to open the safety gas valve. Replacing the igniter restores fast 10-minute preheating.

Can you repair induction cooktops and dual-fuel commercial ranges (Wolf, Thermador, Viking)?

Yes. Our technicians service dual-fuel ranges, high-BTU gas burners, and induction glass cooktops, including induction power inverter boards and cooling fans.

What causes error codes like F10, E011, or EC01 on an oven control panel?

These error codes indicate runaway cavity temperatures, stuck touch panel keys, or open temperature thermistor circuits. We run diagnostic diagnostics to replace the specific faulty board or sensor.

Why is the range hood fan or light not operating properly?

Range hood issues usually trace back to a burnt blower motor, shorted speed selector switch, or blown transformer on high-volume exhaust hoods.

Is it safe to use an oven if I smell a faint odor of gas during preheating?

A brief 2-second smell during gas burner ignition can be normal, but a persistent gas odor means a leaking gas valve or delayed igniter. Shut off the gas valve and call for inspection immediately.

How much does oven and range repair cost?

Repair costs depend on the appliance type (gas, electric, induction) and parts needed. We provide an itemized written quote after diagnosis, and the diagnostic fee is credited toward approved repairs.
