Dryer Repair

A dryer that runs without heat, takes two or three cycles to dry a load, or makes grinding noises isn't just inconvenient -- it wastes electricity and can pose a safety risk. Appliance Experts 365 repairs gas and electric dryers across Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, and the Puget Sound.

We check heating elements, thermal fuses, igniters, flame sensors, belts, rollers, and airflow ducts before recommending a fix, giving you a clear written quote before work starts.

Common Dryer Repair Warning Signs

If any of these sound familiar, it's time to have a technician take a look.

Takes Too Long to Dry

Loads taking 2+ cycles to dry usually points to a clogged exhaust vent line, a failing heating element, or a weak thermal sensor.

Runs But No Heat

A drum that turns with cold air points to a blown thermal fuse, failed electric heating element, or a bad gas igniter/solenoid valve.

Noisy Operation

Squeaking, thumping, or grinding sounds indicate worn drum support rollers, an idler pulley, or a damaged drive belt.

Error Codes on Display

Display codes like d80, d90, tE, or AF indicate airflow restrictions or thermistor failures.

Won't Turn On

A completely silent dryer usually means a tripped door switch, blown thermal fuse, or broken belt switch.

Shuts Off After a Few Minutes

A dryer that starts and then cuts out early is often overheating due to restricted airflow or a failing drive motor.

How We Diagnose Dryer Problems

We test electrical components in logical order -- thermal fuses, high-limit thermostats, igniters, gas coils, or heating elements -- using a multimeter before replacing parts. Replacing a heating element when the real issue is a $15 thermal fuse or a clogged vent line is a mistake we make sure to avoid.

For gas dryers, we check gas valve solenoid coils and igniter draw; for electric dryers, we check 240V supply voltage across both legs of power to verify full heating capability.

What's Included in Every Service Visit

You'll get an itemized quote after diagnosis and before any repair begins. Diagnostic fees credit toward approved repairs, and every job carries a written parts-and-labor warranty.

Got Questions?

Dryer Repair FAQs

Why is my dryer tumbling but not heating?

On electric dryers, a blown thermal fuse, burnt heating element coil, or tripped breaker is usually responsible. On gas dryers, a worn igniter or weak gas valve solenoid coils are the top causes. We test each component to replace only what's broken.

Why do my clothes take two or three cycles to dry?

Slow drying almost always points to a clogged exhaust vent pipe or lint buildup inside the dryer housing, which prevents moist air from escaping. Cleaning or repairing the vent line restores normal 45-minute drying times.

Is a squeaking dryer safe to run?

A squeaking sound usually comes from worn drum support rollers or an idler pulley bearing. While not immediately dangerous, letting it run will eventually snap the drive belt or damage the motor pulley.

What does error code d80 or d90 mean on an LG dryer?

These codes mean your home's exterior dryer vent pipe is 80% to 90% clogged with lint. The dryer reduces heat to prevent overheating and fire risk until the vent is cleared.

How much does gas vs. electric dryer repair cost?

Repair costs are comparable for both gas and electric dryers. Gas dryers require testing gas igniters and solenoid coils, while electric dryers use high-amperage heating elements.

Why does my gas dryer ignite for a few seconds and then turn off without heating?

This behavior is a classic symptom of weak gas valve solenoid coils (M-coils). The igniter glows and opens the valve initially, but as the coils heat up, they lose magnetic strength and shut off gas flow prematurely.

What causes a dryer to trip the home circuit breaker as soon as it starts?

A dryer tripping the breaker indicates a grounded heating element coil (where a broken element wire touches the metal casing), a shorted drive motor winding, or a faulty 240V breaker.

Can a clogged dryer vent line cause the thermal fuse to blow?

Yes. A clogged exhaust line traps intense heat inside the dryer cabinet. Once internal temperatures exceed safety thresholds (around 220°F–250°F), the thermal fuse blows to prevent a house fire.

Can you service heat-pump and ventless dryers (Miele, Bosch)?

Yes. We repair compact heat-pump and ventless condenser dryers, including cleaning internal heat exchanger fins, clearing condensate pumps, and replacing sensor modules.

Why is my dryer making a loud grinding noise while spinning?

Grinding noises typically indicate completely worn drum support roller bearings, a failed motor bearing, or worn drum glides metal-on-metal rubbing.
